Tsutsumi (つつみ)

Tsutsumi (つつみ) embodies the act of wrapping a precious object in a square piece of beautiful fabric. We bring uniquely designed “wrap and bundle” products to you, making it an environmentally friendly way to bring your gifts to family and friends.

Built on the simple idea of wrapping a precious object in a square piece of beautiful fabric, the Tsutsumi Square Wrap was designed as a reusable fabric carrier to substitute single-use plastic bags.

The idea for the Tsutsumi Square Wrap was originally borne out of my habit of doing food takeaways at coffeeshops and hawker centres. I wanted to have a reusable carrier to put my takeaway orders (instead of using disposable plastic bags). While there is the option of bringing tiffin containers to pack the food, I must confess that I find it a hassle to lug the tiffin containers around. As the next alternative and a small step forward, I decided to sew my own reusable fabric carrier for my food takeaways.

The Tsutsumi Square Wrap, which is a cross between the traditional Japanese furoshiki cloth and a modern tote bag, becomes a stylish and sustainable carrier for a plethora of uses. Building on the furoshiki concept, the Tsutsumi Square Wrap was designed as a square piece of fabric with Velcro fasteners for easy closure and handles for quick pick-up-and-go. It is reusable and washable, and is a good substitute for disposable plastic bags.

Given the flexible organic nature of fabric, the Tsutsumi Square Wraps can be used to carry items of different shapes and sizes. The position of the handle straps ensure that each wrap is able to support weights up to 6 kg. The thoughtful design with interesting prints and colours makes it an attractive and environmentally-friendly way to bring our gifts to family and friends.

For every Tsutsumi Square Wrap that goes out to the world, I hope to encourage more people to adopt reusable alternatives in our daily lives. Let’s embrace a more eco-friendly lifestyle and commit to making the world a greener and cleaner place, one Tsutsumi Wrap at a time.
